The AEG Fly Fishing Film Tour Starts Today (or, Now That's a Media Kit)

Posted by Tom Chandler 2/2/2011

You're unlikely to see a review of the Fly Fishing Film Tour on the Underground (there isn't a stop closer than 3.5 hours away, and if I was going to drive that far, I'd drive somewhere and fish), but let's give credit where it's due - they do know how to put together a first-class Media Kit (yes, that's a sixer of India Pale Ale):

The 2011 Fly Fishing Film Tour Media Kit

The fly fishing video world is still in something of an infancy; some productions are frankly brilliant (Felt Soul, Steve Apple, a few others, we're looking at you), but too many lack insight or point of view (beyond "Zog say fish porn good"), and some are little more than rock sound tracks accompanied by mediocre video.

Still, good is good, and anything that spotlights the best video out there deserves support.

You can find their tour schedule here (interestingly, they're playing in Fryeburg, ME - the tiny town that Nestle bludgeoned with a lawsuit and five appeals).

Again, you probably won't see me there (that drive thing again) - and I'm not wearing the hat, which is kinda ugly (any takers among the Undergrounders?) - but I promise the Fly Fishing Film Tour I'll drink the beer before I review the DVD.

See you on the silver screen, Tom Chandler.

So will there be a rock n roll soundtrack film about chasing Brookies up high with bamboo and silk high fives and chest bumps when an 8" trophy for those waters comes to hand...... extreme roll casting to 14 feet..... I went last go round and was really dissapointed but I do agree thats a pretty cool media kit.... I'd prefer single malt but beer is never a bad thing

This isnt a film that is going to be on this tour, at least i wouldn't imagine it to be, but i saw this for the first time just the other day and loved it! Fly fishing films are not very popular yet but i think this film will really help. The quality is amazing and it was over all really well done. Check it out. Very inspiring for a new idea for my next trip! http://www.hulu.com/watch/201829/indieflix-shorts-once-in-a-blue-moon

I didn't say the kit was brilliant; just good by fly fishing industry standards (which are just not that high).

Okay, so it's ugly; but did you wear it? (Inquiring minds want to know!) I bet if you had all six beers first, you'd wear the hat...

Media cliche kit? The beers definitely the high point, they could have kept the hat and sent another six-pack. You could of course have an Underground auction and do something worthwhile with the proceeds, like buy more beer. How did Trucker hats find their way into fly fishing culture anyway? What's next, face piercings? I miss Curt Gowdy.

The hat's really pretty ugly. End of story (The Underground's Fashion Editor Has Spoken).I expect the beer will find more favor...

I don't get why everyone in fly fishing thinks that everyone else wants a trucker hat! Sure, there are a few non-mesh backed hats our there, but in 2011 there are waaaaay too many trucker style hats in fly fishing. We need to have a revolution and bring back normal hats! PS - I'll take the hat and the glass!

Jeff: I learned to fish on a little lake about 15-20 minutes' drive east of Fryeburg. My grandfather built a small cabin there in the 40s. Nice country up there.

Tom, That tiny town of Fryeburg is a 20 minute ride for me. The tour has never been close enough prior to this year, so I secured a few seats and will be going to check it out. Opinions will be posted on Sunday.

Ouch. You mean videos where guys run screaming into the creek to retrieve a snagged fly? Or videos where people do silly walks. Oh man. No wonder I didn't make the list. Well, not the right list. I think I'm in that vague " Zog like fly fishin'" list somewhere. ;) I have to agree that if I had that hat I'd need two of them. one to..oh, nevermind.

I agree with Bjorn. It's a pretty handsome meshback as meshbacks go (tallest midget?). Not really my cup of cake either, but MY younger, not-as-good-looking brother would probably be all over it.

Oh Tom, the hat isn't ugly, it's just not your style... looks good to me and I'd wear it if I had more heads. Can't wait to see what comes out of the tour this year.
