You just have to love good satire.

Whip that bobber Hank! It is just like fishing with bait.... and you can never mend enough... To all those who took this too seriously... in the words of Sgt. Hulka, "Lighten up, Francis." This is good manure Hank (insert the proper euphemism "manure") Keep the videos coming, satire is a dying art...........

Regarding those who criticize Patterson: You only take flak when you're over the target. There will never, never, be too much cynicsm or satire about guides, flyshop workers, and flyfishermen in general. Pile on and then pile on some more.

I could not disagree more. He is still funny, and this was one of his best.

flyfish ks: Hank has overstayed his welcome and ran out of good material imo. Quit while you’re ahead Hank, its just not funny anymore. Maybe I'd feel this way if I'd watched all Hank's videos, but I find what I see pretty amusing.

Dan: I guess I’m having way too much fun when I fish. I need to buckle down, get grim, take this s**t seriously, get on the winning side. Yeah! Just make sure you do all that while owning the right gear. Otherwise, you're just a pretender.

Idaho steel: Given the subversive hipster infiltration of steelhead fishing (not to mention spey casting and two handed rods) over the last decade or so, I suspect that any steelhead river ’round here would provide ‘ol Hank with what my father used to term a “target rich environment…” My thinking about Hank Patterson has evolved a bit since I posted this. Perhaps a new post coming (one that many ... more are not going to find endearing).

I love that latest video. One of the side effects of that video, for me, was the revelation that there are still some folks who take fly fishing way too seriously and/or have had their sense of humor deformed by tragic accidents or birth defects. I first saw this video on the Orvis blog and some of the comments on it were, well, humorous in a sad way. Folks who refused to watch it after Hank "abused" ... more that child and folks who thought it put fly fishing in bad light. I guess I'm having way too much fun when I fish. I need to buckle down, get grim, take this s**t seriously, get on the winning side. Yeah! Yuck. That doesn't even feel right to joke about. Feels exhausting and sad.

Man I about peed myself... FlyLink: Oh, was that satire? I assumed the bit about parental abuse was taken from a child rearing documentary.

APfromNC: I would pay real money to see Hank and Russ Chatham in a short film on a salmon river. Would that be shown on The Outdoor Channel or a WWE pay-per-view?
