Fishing Reports
Madison River Fishing Report for 3/16/21. The Madison spring game is heating up with temperatures in the mid to upper fifties. We’re seeing rainbows heading up-river to do their ... moreannual spawning in the many skinny riffles so watch your step and your anchor out there! Those fry are the future of the river. Nymphing will likely be your best bet but if your patient, there are fish rising to midges. Look for soft, porpoising rises behind rocks and foam lines as the water warms. Sometimes a double dry with a larger visible pattern and the tiny virtually invisible midge eighteen to twenty inches behind it tied of the bend of the hook. A dry/dropper can be effective in these situations as well as adding a tungsten bead nymph will search both feeding columns. They are eating streamers in the afternoon. Look for that green water and you’ll find trout.

Guides
I grew up hunting and fishing in Connecticut. As a youth, I spent a lot of time in the woods with my grandfather H.L. Winnie, an avid outdoorsman and Connecticut State Park constable ... morethat instilled in me a deep respect and love for the outdoors. I followed my love of the outdoors and fly fishing. In 1995 I decided to follow my love of the outdoors and fly fishing and packed my bags for Alaska where I guided my first season in Katmai National Park chasing giant rainbows and Pacific Salmon on The Kulik, Moraine and Kukaklek River’s. The following spring, opportunity and Montana found me. Since then, I have guided here in Southwestern Montana, putting down roots and establishing FishTales Outfitting. I am a career guide and fly fishing outfitter with over twenty years of experience. I am very intimate with these waters and look forward to sharing our amazing trout rivers with you.

The bugs had just started and a few trout were rising, and it was suddenly very clear I'd spent most of my summer fly fishing small streams.
