At Least We Know They Have a Sense of Humor (or, I Own The Only MegaProTurboExtreme Fly Rod)

By Tom Chandler 2/16/2011

It's nice to know the Orvis gang maintained a sense of humor after I made sport of their new blog in my (MegaProTurboExtreme) post; after receiving my Orvis 6wt (sent back for some "Oops, my fault" work), I noticed it had been personalized:

MegaProTurboExtreme Orvis fly rod

Frankly, I think everyone should own a fly rod that's MegaProTurboExtreme good (though it would tend to reduce the number of excuses available to skunked fly fishers).

I suspect the intervention of Orvis social media guru James Hathaway, who warned me retribution would someday appear, and it seems he's a man of his word.

Let's just hope it doesn't escalate (after he receives the dead fish I just shipped him).

See you laughing, Tom Chandler.

Tom Chandler, You could take it to fly fishing shows and charge people to money to wiggle it and much, much more to actually cast it ; )

Dang, Turbo Extreme. Sweet! Now all we need is an Orvis Turbo Extreme Snow Melter and Stream Flow Controller and we could get back to business.

No way. I'm already negotiating a deal with Orvis to sell the "Chandler MegaProTurboExtreme" line of fly rods (hey, it worked great for Loop and the AEG guys... didn't it?). After sales of the new line breaks all records and decimates the rest of the industry, this original is headed for the Smithsonian...

I'd like to start the bidding at $50.00 mega dollars for this one of a kind collectors piece.

I've seen all too much bad-mouthing of Orvis which I've never understood. Not from you Tom, which I appreciate. I snapped a 9' five weight Orvis graphite rod in Alaska while landing an eight+ pound char, a serious fish on a five weight. I had fished the rod hard for six or so years before the Alaska trip. The breakage was total user error . I'd rather not admit the cause of the breakage here. I sent ... more the rod back to Orvis with a note saying it was my fault just to see what would happen. What did Orvis do? Orvis replaced my rod with an upgraded model because they no longer made the rod I abused. The replacement rod is real sweet, much better than the rod I abused. Am I happy? No, I feel bad about the whole thing. Got a nice photo of the char though...
